Dance

Basic idea:
In the first part of the workshop the participants are introduced to the basics of contemporary dance techniques; alignment of the body, inside and outside (according to the space), anatomical analysis of the movement, exercises for coordination of directions of the body, working with gravity, inertia, suspense. The technical part starts by warming up through various techniques, yoga, Pilates, etc., it is concluded with a final combination; an upgrade of previous exercises and tasks.
The second part is oriented towards creative body work and movement, group work as well as developing and connecting the body and mind through imagination. Through different games the participants will become more conscious about their own body and movements; they will encounter some of the truly basic principles of movement improvisation, which is loosely set for the final production in order to connect with other workshops.
Expectations:
Participants will have the opportunity to work on their body awareness, to become familiar with some simple games and exercises that can be used for “group bonding” in any kind of activity. They will be invited to broaden their comprehension of dance, to discover various dimensions of dance and movements; quality of movement, dynamics, energy manipulation, use of visualization and all of this in a playful way. All of the above represents the goal of the referred workshop; to use the attained knowledge, abilities, attitudes and comprehension to create a final production and to share our experience with each other throughout the workshop. *see “Tasks for participants” section

Tasks for participants:
Participants will be confronted with some body work, so they should have affiliation towards it, although previous experience is not mandatory. They should bring comfortable clothes, suitable for dancing. Since contemporary dance in Slovenia will be one of the topics of discussion (watching performances, short introduction with some visual material), * participants should perhaps think about their own experience with dancing in their own country. Moreover, they should reflect on the following; in your home country what is the current situation of dancing in performance art and related form of arts and what influenced its development (e.g. “traditional capital”, political or any other influences on dancing culture in general). If possible, please bring any kind of DVD or CD about performances you've seen from local or foreign artists (doesn’t matter) in order to share them with the group.

Number of participants: min: 5 – max: 12

Leader: Lili Mihajlović

About the leader:

Lili was a student of physics at the faculty of natural sciences and mathematics at the University of Maribor. Interestingly enough, she ended up becoming a successful dancer, performer and author of some works in the dance studio Plesna Izba Maribor. As a witness of her accomplishment is her winning award for the national competition of young dance creators of Slovenia in 2007 and as well her scholarship of Nomad Dance Academy educational program of 2008. Right after the youth exchange, Lili will leave Slovenia in order to attend a MA program of pedagogy in contemporary dance in Frankfurt.
