MLADINSKO DRUŠTVO BISTRICA OB SOTLI (YOUTH SOCIETY BISTRICA OB SOTLI)
Some youngsters wanted to open a disco in our village. They squatted a place under the stage of culture home in Bistrica which was used as backstage in old times (30, 40, or even 50 years ago... who knows). They cleaned this very dirty and moist place, painted a few light bulbs and... stayed outside of the place's door with changed lock. The caretaker of the house stopped the movement by changing the lock...
...but not for a long time, hahahaaaa!
Marko Kunst came to an agreement and got the keys, bought some old broken pool table, old bar and a big, but used up old Hi-Fi. There was a „beautiful“ chandelier above the pool table... a chandelier? I just don't know was it a chamber pot or a German tin tan from world war II. The air was very damp and smoky. All interior furniture was old. There were some posters, photos, fliers on the walls, just the thing the visitors brought.
But we were happy. We had our own place. The music depended on CD's, brought by visitors. Mainly rock, alternative rock, old rock, grunge, punk, metal, reggae... there was just no place for commercial pop and techno.
Marko Kunst called this our place Klub Metulj (Butterfly club). Some called him Metulj, but he always said he is still unripe – still a pupae (slovene: Buba). So people still call him Buba.
After a couple of years of using our club just for social meetings, there was a first rock concert. The response was very good. Something interesting finally happened in our village! So in the future, more concerts followed.
A few years later we allowed some ravers have their house parties in Metulj. The club was also available for birthday parties.
The place seemed boring to all of us, so we painted almost all walls and ceiling. Then it looked pretty artistic and interesting. Maybe the biggest/most important concert in history of Metulj was the one of Demolition Group – a very known and good rock band from Slovenia. The place was so loaded with people, that moist was gathering on the ceiling and was falling down, so people were asking, who is spitting.
Many young people in Bistrica ob Sotli wanted after the first few concerts to play something. There was so many bands – some existed just a few weeks, some a few years and some all this time till now – that would be absurd to anumerate all of them. We can just thank the club for that there are still so many musicians in our small town.
We just wanted to work legally and so informal group of people transformed to youth society. After several years of continuing of youth activities we made the biggest project since then - The first youth exchange: Meje – Borders. Just before the exchange we started to renovate the place.

Year later (2008) the Youth bureau granted us the status of MC (Youth Centre) and since that we are for real - beside concerts we are organizing travelogues, movie evenings, creative workshops, discussions, exhibitions and more.
